The colors, the vibes, the scenery. Every bit of this Geneva family photos session was perfection. Erin reached out to book her family photos after her daughter’s elementary teacher posted photos she had taken with me (soo thankful for the referral!). She had a vision for local outdoor photos that featured the beautiful autumn scenery. Ultimately, I told her about Fabyan Forest Preserve and thought it’d be the perfect spot.
One of the things I’m most committed to as a Chicagoland photographer is to help my clients through the whole process so they feel comfortable and empowered. Many times people come to me with uncertainty, stress, and no idea how to go about planning for their photos. That’s where I believe it’s my job to step in wholly. Not just to take photos, but to provide an infinitely valuable experience that takes off the guess work, and results in even more beautiful photos.
In this case, Erin confessed that it’d been three years since they’d had any nice family photos taken. Additionally, she had a vision but didn’t know where to start with outfit planning.
On our design call (an in-depth, fun video call to plan everything before the photo session), I helped with all the outfit planning, including curated Pinterest boards, my Amazon recommendations, and even texting her color palette to share with her family so they could reference it.
These steps are so important because they help not only set you at ease, but also directly effect the end results of the photos. I help design a cohesive color palette with clothing that:
-compliments the location we’ll be shooting at,
-looks good with everyone’s skin tones,
-is coordinated and balanced so it looks good in the camera,
-AND matches the vibes of your home for when you get the prints.
This custom approach is what has set me apart as a boutique portrait photographer in west Chicagoland and has had such a positive impact with my clients!

Okay, this has to be one of my favorite little moments with the B family. The girl’s grandparents were in town on vacation from Arizona – a big reason why we scheduled the photos so they could all be together. I knew we had to make sure to get some shots with just them and girls. The result was the sweetest moment of snuggles, lots of giggles, and silly jokes from grandpa! One of the photos has even made it to Arizona to proudly hang on their wall. The best.

It’s such a joy working with families that are in the middle of their beautiful story. To be apart of it is an honor. I love that the B family now has precious memories to hang in their home and to pass on through their keepsake album. If you’d like to work together on your own custom family photos, let’s connect!
