Nicholas Sparks book cover, is that you? No, for real. Say hello to one of my most whimsical, romantic book-lore engagement sessions to date. Anna and Devin were simply magical. As an Aurora engagement photographer with over 15 years of experience, I’ve done my fair share of telling the stories of beautiful couples around the Chicagoland. Something about this day, however, made me feel like I was under contract by Mr Sparks himself. I have to give credit to Anna’s vision for a soft and romantic session with the love of her life, Devin. We dreamed up the perfect details together, met at Blackwell Forest Preserve, and the rest is for the books.
No sun? No problem. I know it’s a big deal to have the perfect “golden hour” glow for your photos. And maybe that’s what your Pinterest inspiration is filled with while you’re planning out your dream engagement photos. But might I encourage you that even if weather doesn’t cooperate (thanks, Chicagoland), it’s going to be okay. Sometimes I even welcome the cloud coverage! It gives us something new to work with, like even light, soft shadows, and takes the attention away from the sky and straight onto you. That’s why I always tell my clients not to worry about clouds!
Not surprisingly, one of the most complicated or stressful parts of planning your Naperville engagement photos is outfits. Do you wear something from your closet? Will your man be okay with shopping for something new? And what does he even wear? There’s so many questions, but that’s why I take the front seat (willingly!) so we can help you put together amazing outfits that look good on you AND in camera. Most people don’t think about the later part, but that’s my job.
Let’s look at this next set of images, for example. Imagine if Devin was wearing black pants and a checkered button-up short sleeve shirt with red and white. That would totallyyy change the vibe of the whole session, right? Since Anna wanted soft romance, we chose soft, romantic colors for them both. She already had a dress in mind, so we pulled from the floral pattern and went with soft salmon shade for Devin. The tan slacks and brown shoes pulled it all together without feeling too casual (sneakers) or too heavy (black shoes).
And THAT is why the pre-planning that we do is soo important! If you’re getting engagement or anniversary photos with me around Chicago, then meeting with me in person or on zoom is one of the perks included with your session! Nothing crazy. Just us, Pinterest, and some of my top tips so that we can pull together the dreamiest photos of your love story.
Now – please enjoy the rest of these Naperville engagement photos with Anna and Devin at Blackwell Forest Preserve. Because they’re the best. Yes, I’m bias.
A million thanks to Anna and Devin for the GIFT that it was to be able to create these memories for you! You did most of the work, let’s be honest, I was just there to capture it. :’) If you’re looking for Aurora engagement photos too (or really anywhere around Chicago suburbs), it’s time to get planning!
