As a Geneva family photographer, I’m always on the lookout for hidden gems to make your family portraits stand out. Recently, I had the joy of photographing a beautiful family in downtown Geneva, Illinois, and we had an absolute blast exploring the area to find the best spots for them.
When I say this family is the real deal, I mean it. They radiate joy, are dynamic and fun-loving, and most of all they love people so well. I know this comes out a deep commitment to their first love, Jesus. It was such an honor to take their family portraits this year!

Downtown Geneva Family Photos with Fun Geometric Urban Style
Our first spot was a surprising find—a random alleyway painted in geometric shapes in shades of sage green and orange. The minute I pulled up, I knew it would be fun to work with! The colors in the background were a perfect compliment to their navy blue outfits, giving GAP model vibes. This is what I love about keeping an open mind with taking photos in a place like downtown Geneva. Without a specific agenda and with room for creativity, you never know what you’re going to come across! I love when my clients fully trust me with the process.
Adding Creativity & Fun to Downtown Geneva Family Photos
From our second location, we walked down the street to see what was nearby, and discovered a neat wall covered in creeping vines. This spot added a touch of nature, giving the portraits a softer, organic feel. To make it even more fun, I brought along my speaker, and we had a little dance party! The kids twirled, laughed, and even dad got it on it. Meanwhile the setting sun peeked through the vines, adding a gentle, golden glow. At this point, my daughter even joined in on the fun and had a blast getting in one some of the photos, too! These moments not only bring out genuine smiles that make for the perfect portraits, but most of all they create a truly fun, memorable experience for everyone.
Family Photos are about Storytelling and Legacy
Finally, we wrapped up our session with a simple, light blue brick wall that served as a beautifully minimal backdrop. This way there is variety of looks and poses in the photos they chose for their final heirloom album.
This family session was such a joy to capture. Exploring unique spots, dancing, and seeing the kids’ excitement made it unforgettable for me too.
